Moral economy revisited

Moral economy revisited. Interdisciplinary workshop at the Centre for Advanced Study (ZiF) at the University of Bielefeld

Veranstalterin / Convenor: Dr. Tanja Skambraks, University of Mannheim

The workshop will bring together researchers from history, behavioural economics, sociology, biology, philosophy and anthropology to discuss the concept of ‚moral economy’, both as heuristic category of scientific research as well as leading principle of economic ethics in human societies, past and present. By looking at central questions of cooperation, prosociality, the idea of the common good and empathy as driving forces of human behaviour from different viewpoints, we will take a critical approach on well known narratives of the so called homo oeconomicus, establishing an overdue interdisciplinary counter narrative of economic thinking, hoping to inspire most recent societal debates.
